Patient Moving & handling training (operative level)

Patient MovingTo comply with current Health & Safety Legislation, staff engaged in the moving and handling of people must be given information about the dangers associated with unsafe moving and handling and be provided with training in safe moving and handling techniques and the use of moving and handling equipment.. This one day course is run onsite for up to 8 people per trainer.

Objectives

On completion of this course participants will:

  • Have the knowledge to carry out risk assessments of their moving & handling tasks.
  • Know the principles of moving and handling and how to apply them to a range of patient moving and handling tasks
  • Know how to use the hoist and other moving and handling aids

Course Program

  • Legislation
  • Structure of the spine & how it is injured
  • The importance of being fit and flexible to prevent back injury
  • Ergonomics & risk assessment
  • Principles of lifting
  • Practical: Lifting to and from floor level, to sand from a height, lifting at bench level, pushing & pulling
  • Moving and handling of people (in the bed, on and off the bed, walking and the falling patient.
  • Use of hoist, slide sheets and a range of patient moving & handling aids.

English is the language in which the training is delivered. Participants must have a good command of the English Language. Participants may bring an interpreter if they wish but prior notice must be given of this to Safety First.


Who should attend?

All staff engaged in lifting loads and moving and handling people during their working day.

Certification:

Each participant will receive a certificate off attendance on completion of the course. They will also receive a booklet to support the material covered on the course.
