Patient Moving & Handling Instructor update/recertification course
Aim of the course:
The main aim of this instructor update course is to update existing patient handling instructors on current information and guidance in relation to patient handling training programmes and techniques.
Course duration:
Some organisations are just looking to have their instructors updated (2 days). Others want to have their instructors recertified to ensure that the instructors are maintaining the required level of competence to provide training in their organisation (3 days)
Course content:
There is a large practical element to this course with a particular emphasis on developing problem solving skills for more complex handling tasks.
The course content includes:
- Update on relevant legislation and developments in the UK and Ireland.
- Update on recent research and publications.
- Review of content of training sessions and documentation.
- Risk assessment process and moving and handling plans for patients/clients
- Review of basic inanimate handling techniques
- Review of basic patient/client handling techniques
- Demonstration of patient/client handling equipment and handling aids.
- Problem solving session.
Selection Criteria:
- The participants must be moving and handling instructors
- Preferably, instructors should be currently providing training within their organisation.
Recertification:
This takes place on day three and includes three components
- Pre-course learning material & open book written paper
- 15 minute theory presentation
- 15 minute teaching of inanimate and patient handling techniques
