Manual Handling Training (Operative Level)

Manual HandlingTo comply with current Health & Safety Legislation, staff engaged in manual handling must be given information about the dangers associated with unsafe manual handling and be provided with training in safe manual handling techniques. This 3.5 hour course is run onsite for up to 10 people per trainer.

Objectives:

On completion of this course participants will:

  • Be aware of the risks associated with unsafe manual handling practices
  • Have the knowledge to carry out risk assessments of their manual handling tasks
  • Know the principles of lifting and how to apply them to a range of manual handling tasks.

Course Program:

  • Legislation
  • Structure of the spine & how it is injured
  • The importance of being fit and flexible to prevent back injury
  • Ergonomics & risk assessment
  • Principles of lifting
  • Practical: Lifting to and from floor level, to sand from a height, lifting at bench level, pushing & pulling
  • Lifting of loads specific to the organisation (bags, sacks, barrels etc)

English is the language in which the training is delivered. Participants must have a good command of the English Language. Participants may bring an interpreter if they wish but prior notice must be given of this to Safety First.

Who should attend?

All staff engaged in lifting loads during their working day.

Certification:

Each participant will receive a certificate off attendance on completion of the course. They will also receive a booklet to support the material covered on the course.
